SCHOLAR: WHAT IS BIDENS AMERICA

The American election concluded in late 2020.  The victor is in a position wherein his opponent is vilifying the legitimacy of the election.  America is in a state of instability as people continue to support the extremes in which cause civil unrest.  Is the victor up for the challenge to address the current issues facing America in this modern world?  Joe Biden is an individual who was appointed the Vice President in the Obama administration.  He is currently the oldest president elect that will ascertain the Oval Office.  Although that may seem worrisome to some citizens, especially with regards to the incident related to his injury with his pet, he has been elected because democracy has once again brought the majority into some form of unity.  Although said unity is delicate, and many confrontations have occurred since the victory, he is assuring Americans that he will return America to the hegemon that takes responsibility for itself and other nations.  This is a drastically contrasted to the approach of the former President Trump which specifically strategized an America first policy.  It will be interesting to see the developments of the current presidency within the next several years.  This essay will cover three domestic policies and three international policies which aim to clarify the position of the current presidency.  It is clear that the approach in which was taken by the former president is starkly different from the approach that is going to be implemented by President Biden.

Domestic policies are those that affect the Americans.  These policies aim to address the demands of the American people within their borders.  Domestic policy are important because it assists the government to have activity within their economy.  Furthermore, it helps shape how America is to function with relation to each state.

First and foremost, Biden aims to destabilize the issues pertaining to immigration.  The former president was strongly opposed to illegal immigration.  This idea is reflected through his rhetoric which claims that people that come into America, illegally are not the best people.  He further claimed that these people are rapist and drug addicts among others.  The former president has gone so far as to build a wall which separates Mexico and USA.  His beliefs with regards to illegals and immigration in general have created in the political landscape a form of xenophobia.  Biden, on the contrary, supports an immigration policy that is more considerate and supportive of these people.  Biden has expressed opposition to decriminalizing illegal border crossings” (Haltiwagner 2020).  Biden pledges to protect children who come into the country illegally.  Further, Biden is in support for a more cohesive process to naturalize immigrants to citizenship.  Lastly, he is in support for a border security that is more laxed than what is currently offered by the Trump administration wherein he urges law makers to give him the funds to combat the former administrations border policy.

Not only does President elect Biden aim to protect immigration, he also has leftist policy supporting education.  America is a country wherein education is commoditized.  This means that educational institutions are charging very expensive premiums wherein people are forced to then pay into it.  People oppose this because the students, whom are already financially struggling incur more debt as they receive funds from student loans.  There is a crisis in America in where these student loans have become so damning that students are unable to pay it back.  Further, there have been talks to bail out the student loans.  This development is in the early stages however, Biden through his administration is offering, “making college tuition-free for families making less than $125,000” (Haltiwagner 2020).  Through this policy, American students will receive some sort of equity.  This policy clearly is aimed as a social lever assisting those who may not have the opportunity to be able to get education.  This policy has the ability to assist the poor in integrating into the society via credentials.  Not only do people benefit in this way, America has the most to gain as a result because their citizens will be more skilled and prepared for the future.

The last domestic policy of interest, with regards to the upcoming administration is Bidens policy on wealth.  Wealthy individuals have a responsibility to uphold the values of any country.  They give back to the community not only by providing jobs, but through charity and taxes.  Owning a business is a form of wealth sharing.  Although academia insist that there is a conflict between classes.  The truth remains that what the wealthy people have done is share their prosperity.  Their employees, paycheck by paycheck earn the ability to be able to move up the social ladder.  Biden aims to increase the responsibility on the wealthy by, “higher taxes on wealthy Americans” (Haltiwagner 2020).  Having higher taxes on the wealthy is an issue that these wealthy people are opposed to.  With consideration of what has already been mentioned, the higher taxes would reduce the value that the wealthy people ascertain.  However, the big issue here is that Biden is aiming to directly reduce the wealth gap.  This will benefit the Americans in the long run, by making citizens more resilient in the face of economic recession and or depression.

International policies are those that affect countries abroad and their relationship with America.  Clearly, both forms of policy serve the interest of the citizen.  However, what is unique about international policy is that it has the ability to significantly increase the revenue of the countries which then the government reduces risk of inflation, or debt.  Through international policy, the governments agree to disagree on what they will purchase and invest in.  The objective of this is to have a lower imports and higher exports.  Evidently through international policy, it convinces other nations to invest into the economy of America.

As specified, the objective of international policy is to increase revenue, the Biden administration aims to address this issue via continuing the policy of bringing manufacturing back into the country.  Specifically Biden is looking to, “ensure products are made in the US in order to boost manufacturing jobs. This includes a plan for the federal government to spend $400 billion over the course of four years on American goods” (Haltiwagner 2020).  Although this may make products more expensive, it would however bring money back into the country.  By bringing these funds back into the economy, the activity of the economy could be excited.  This would give people more jobs.  However, what is beneficial about this policy is that if these products have components in which are produced in other countries, it could convince other nations to invest in America.  This would then affect export/ import revenue which would then help to rectify any deficits if any.

Furthermore, president elect Biden is focusing on repairing international relations with NATO members.  Specifically, the former administration aimed to reduce their presence in the world stage.  The Trump administration eased out of many foreign relations agreements such as and not limited to the Paris Agreement, NATO and GATT.  Biden,” has made repairing US relations with NATO allies a top priority” (Haltiowagner 2020).  Trump’s foreign policy was effective in improving parts of the economy.  Many American companies have returned operations within the confines of the US border.  This has brough many jobs in which aid the Americans to ascertain wealth.  In the past, specifically before the world wars, America ascertained the wealth that had caused them to be the hegemon that they are today.  Trump saw this and that is why he implemented the America first policy.  However, Biden sees the next phase of leadership by “repairing US relations with NATO” (Haltiowagner 2020).  Essentially Bidens America will take a greater role in foreign politics.  This would certainly improve peace around the world and it would balance the playing field by creating polar oppositions in which countries can ascertain support.

Finally, the policy pertaining to China is of interest because there is an ideological divide amongst nations which is currently presenting itself via the massive civil unrest in places such as Hong Kong and Taiwan.  The issue of a free independent press, a free people, a world where people can verbalize what they want without government intervention is at peril.  The importance of freedom of speech is very integral to the further development of America.  It has what has created the innovation in this country.  The ability for Americans to verbalize what really they are thinking about has allowed America to come up with some of the most influential ideas.  Therefore Bidens policy on addressing the authoritative regime of China is important as this country aims to repress people via shutting down free communication.  Biden aims for a “united front of US allies and partners to confront China's abusive behaviors and human rights violations" (Haltiowagner 2020).  This is important because it aims to prevent the repression that is caused by the extreme left.  The repression that is also currently present in regimes such as Russia and North Korea.  Through continuing the Trump policies regarding China, Biden will then prevent oppression and bring liberty to the people.

Policy are important to the government because it is a method whereby it can action the demands of the people.  By addressing various issues that citizens are concerned about, American is not only keeping up with their duty to the country but also setting an example for other nations to continue the legacy of democracy, rule of law, liberty and justice.  Through the continuation of these values, the free and independent world are empowered for peace and prosperity.
