SOCIAL: PROPOSED POLICY CHANGES/ SEX & INTIMACY DEGREE PROGRAM

SUBJECT:  SEX & INTIMACY DEGREE PROGRAM

PURPOSE:  This briefing note is a recommendation for changes in policy pertaining to available programs in universities.

ISSUE:  There is not enough action for the administering of Sex and Intimacy proficiency in society.

Background:

Sex and Intimacy is one of the most taboo subject matters in this modern age.  It has become such a touchy subject that movements were created to increase the awareness of sexual injustice such as the ”#metoo” movement.  It was not always like this however.  In ancient Greece a sexual eutopia once existed where people that had the desire to have sex were freely supported by the community.  Often times there would be multiple partners in these sexual adventures.  In India such literary works were produced as the Kamasutra, a book depicting the various positions sexual partners can experience.  In the modern age however, there are swingers who frequent brothels and bathhouses to celebrate sexuality.  These people enjoy the act of having sex and they indulge in its gifts.  With this in mind, we can’t help but notice that there is a gap in Academia.  Academia has explored the concept of sex in a fragmented way.  It has programs and degrees pertaining to Health Sciences, Sociology, Criminology, Economics, Psychology, Communication and Political Science.  Various subject matter pertaining to sex are covered in these broad categories such as gender in Sociology, law in Criminology and multiculturalism in Political Science.  What has not yet occurred is the consolidation of the subject matter of Sex an Intimacy.  The lack of consolidation has created a field which has been completely overlooked by Academia.  The mystery schools of antiquity built a foundation by which Academia’s body of knowledge should be expanded on.  They strived for the opportunity to take on new challenges and tasks so as to gather useful information to benefit the society.  Contemporary Academia’s fault is that it is slow to accept cultural transformation, trends and social constructs.  Furthermore, they have neglected to study with great acuity the matter involving Sex and Intimacy, the primary way by which people ascertain the continuation of civilization.  Is it not that this continuity of our livelihoods a main priority for the human race?  Why is it then that academia constantly refuses to educate the evolution of communication and the explicitness of Sex and Intimacy?  There is a line that Academia has created that separates profession and human nature.  Part of human nature is taking in what is available in society and repeating it.  This means there are tendencies to replicate actions or behaviors one sees be it judged positive or negative by Academia.  For example, Academia has created the term “social entrepreneurs” who focus on transforming systems and practices that are the root cause of poverty, marginalization, environmental deterioration and accompanying loss of human dignity.  These so called, “social entrepreneurs,” are what society refer to as, “social justice warriors.” Another example includes reference to seminal fluid by academia as “spermatozoa,” or “semen,” and by the public as, “cum.”  What has occurred here is a conflict between Academia and political culture.  This efforts benefit is to maintain professionalism however its adverse effect is the fact that it shelters people from the political landscape.  It masks the true nature of society.  Through conflicts such as this, society is not given the say they should.  Is it not democracy that states each person is equal under the law?  That each person’s say counts and is factored in.  Why is it then that Academia seeks to discredit the population by creating such pretentious terminology that overcomplicates the situation.  This restraint is also the cause of societal distrust against the establishment.  In this day and age, the people have the highest distrust for the government and institutions more than ever.  Is it not time for Academia to accept consensus when it factors in scholarly work?  For this to occur, Academia must validate that these explicit slangs and slurs exist and their use will persist.  The deleterious actions of Academia should no longer be sustained as the consensus is a reduced trust in our institutions.  The hole in Academia regarding Sex and Intimacy must be systemically and methodically explored in the same manner as such subjects as English and Communications.  Lastly, it is our belief that a spectrum of professions should be implemented based on the subject matter of career.  This spectrum of professionals should be considerate of the public and that which is educated in Academia.  The spectrum shall separated left from right wherein those professions that can engage in what is traditionally considered public or consensus ideology are segregated to the left such as professors and instructors while those with stricter demands such as doctors who are demanded best practice are placed on the right.  Henceforth, the stricter the demands of the public on the profession, the further right such profession should be placed on the proposed spectrum.  Inconclusion, toleration should be considered and managed so as to maintain the delicate balance of trust with society.

Considerations:

The way people have sex in this modern age are based off of the media they consume, the interpersonal communications they have and the socialization that has taken place.  Media can be in the form of television, movies, videogames, music, magazines and etc.  Communication on the other hand can be with friends and love interests.  And, socialization can be through schools or government institutions.  The goal if it is not explicitly clear is to socialize people into the culture.  There have been efforts made by the media corporations to reduce explicit content but nevertheless it remains fact that despite these efforts, Sex and Intimacy is full of explicit slang and slurs amongst other deviance.  Deviance can be defined as actions that violate social norms.  People are attracted to social constructs that are considered to be exotic or uncommon.  They are also attracted to that which is considered to be liked by many because it are validated.  The polar nature of Sex and Intimacy is that people keep their discretion and it then unravels during the act of having sex.  Oftentimes people think explicit thoughts during sex.  These thoughts are rooted in culture and experience.  Explicit thoughts can be such example as, “fuck me harder,” or “im gonna rip yours apart.”  Just as prostitution is the oldest profession known, the matters and the transpiring of Sex and Intimacy came before speech.  Therefore, society must make a choice, do we educate Sex and Intimacy with a degree line in universities or do we continue with what we have been doing and in the process affect the trajectory of sexual evolution in a negative way?  For example domestic sheep in Australia have lost the ability to shed their wool as a result of humans cultivating and manually trimming it.  The evolution of Sex and Intimacy can have such effects if left unchecked.  In fact, there is an entire taxonomy of studies that academia has not explored.  For example, Sex and Intimacy in Criminology, Sex and Intimacy in Sociology, Sex and Intimacy in Political Science, Sex and Intimacy in Biological Science, Sex and Intimacy in Communications amongst others and as examples.  Perhaps Sex and Intimacy can serve as a major and the other disciplines as minors for those seeking to pursue such course of education.

Options:

Option 1:  Full degree line for the subject matter of Sex and Intimacy.

Education in Sex and Intimacy include proficiency in various disciplines of which are not limited to Health Sciences, Sociology, Criminology, Economics, Psychology, Communication and Political Science.  A degree line for this subject should be considerate of the aforementioned while at the same time allowing pupils to progress through Academia in a logical fashion.  From a postsecondary degree to a graduate degree, these pupils should be able to learn in such a way that promotes respectful consideration of Sex and Intimacy while at the same time ascertaining utility from their chosen educational path via having licensure under the appropriate regulatory body for counsellors or social work.  The practicums should screen for STD’s and should have pupils shadowing and experiencing Sex and Intimacy with members of the community whom identify as a specific gender such as gay or straight.  Through these practicums, pupils will learn how intercourse are performed.  They will also learn the variations with each which would then assist to increase the body of professional knowledge of the subject matter.  Obviously the program would need to require the courses that come with a degree such as English and a second language.  Further progression through the degree line would mean that pupils ascertain a masters where then they should have the ability to choose either a clinical study or a thesis- the pupil would need to undergo Tri-Council (TCPS2) training at this point.  A PHD would then further their foundation via another clinical study or a  dissertation.  Once completed, the pupil would then have to be licensed based on which they chose ie clinical study- the college of physicians.

This is a not a feasible option however it serves to safeguard the benefit of the population at large by systemically and methodically addressing the gap in Academia, the lack of a Sex and Intimacy program.  This would allow professionals to consistently document the evolution of sex.  Having pupils complete such degree and progressing through Academia in a logical fashion will then provide valuable quantitative and qualitative data which can be used as interventions to the problems that trouble contemporary societies such as sexual abuse and rape.  This option is also considerate of equity as it allows for those interested in Sex and Intimacy the ability to ascertain education for their passion.  Society consist of social constructs which promote validation of sexiness and hotness.  There is a reduction of those that are traditionally considered the aforementioned from attending post secondary studies because they are encouraged to have children or are enticed to other opportunities.  In other words, these people are seduced by what is referred to as the, “fast life.”  Further, when professionals are attracted to those that have received less education and vice versa, it creates a conundrum by which couples are then forced to sort out various issues.  Does the professional, "dumb down?"  This issue causes judgement and decision making to be questioned.  Academia needs to have their say in this competitive world for if not, there is a risk of marginalization and repression of the people.  This is a very sustainable option as it seeks to closely monitor the evolution of Sex and Intimacy.  By monitoring the activity that occurs within modern Sex and Intimacy, Academia can see how behavior affects such dependent activity as development of physical traits etc.

Option 2:  Provide Sex and Intimacy courses to start.

This is very feasible.  It will allow Academia to collect the necessary data to formulate an adequate curriculum.  It will also allow instructors to make relevant learning activities pertaining to the subject matter of Sex and Intimacy.  Lastly, selecting this option allows for the adequate studying of pertinent literature or textbooks which can be used in classes.  This is a somewhat sustainable option as it begins the closing of the gap of knowledge in Academia.

Option 3:  Status quo.

This is the most feasible option however, selecting this does a disservice to the future generations by keeping them in a state of sexual ignorance.  This option also does not liberate and empower those who have passions and desires to be educated in Sex and Intimacy.  It does not promote a society that is conscious, consented and informed about the subject matter of Sex and Intimacy.  By selecting this option, Academia stands to have less say in cultural development.  This option will also persist the distrust of government and other institutions.  Political participation will continue to be thus reduced and democracy can falter.

Recommendation:

Option two is recommended.
